St. Francis of Assisi

Volunteer

The Way of God's "Little Servant"
St. Francis of Assisi passionately loved God and all of His creation, and humbly called himself God's "little servant."

He urged followers to "Give praise to [God] since He is good and exalt Him by your deeds for He has sent you into the entire world for this reason that in word and deed you may give witness to His voice..."

We, too, are called to a life of service — not only in caring for family and friends, but also in serving our parish community, our neighborhood, and all of God's creation. Whether we can give an hour of our time once a month or once a week, our service as volunteers gives praise and glory to God.

In this section, you will discover many ways that you can serve our parish and our neighborhood community. I hope you will consider participating in one of our ministries. And, in service to one another, may each of us discover the love and joy that was the essence of St. Francis' life.

We know that many people would like to volunteer. Yet, their schedules seem to be full to overflowing. The following may help you decide if you can volunteer.

Do you have one free hour a month?

Terrific! Once a month, you could be an usher or lector at Sunday mass.

Can you give us three hours twice a year?

Great! Why not help out at dances for adults with developmental disabilities?

Can you share one hour once a week?

Fantastic! We have a people who are homebound. By shopping for groceries, doing a few minor chores or helping someone get to a doctor's appointment, you would be giving that person a precious gift.

Is your schedule just too crazed to make a firm commitment?

That's o.k. Just give us a call any week that you have some free time. We'll tell you what programs are taking place and how we could use your help.

To sign up for any program simply send us an email or call us 212-861-8500.
