Parish Council's Notes of Meetings
June 10, 2008 — Minutes
Fr. Eric led the opening prayer.
Marty Milisits (chairman) asked for a vote to accept the minutes of the May 14, 2008, Parish Council Meeting. Eileen McCarthy so moved and Mary Huthansel seconded the motion, and the vote to accept the minutes was unanimous.
Parish Council Elections (Marty Milisits)
On behalf of the Parish Council, Marty thanked Fr. Angelo, Fr. Eric, Fr. Denes and Jayne for hosting a dinner for the Parish Council during its final meeting for the 2007/2008 year.
Marty asked Terry Jennings (secretary) to distribute the ballots for the Parish Council elections. He noted that Terry would be resigning from the Parish Council and thanked her for her contributions to the Parish Council and the Parish as a whole. Roz Penapento and Fr. Angelo echoed Marty’s words and wished her all the best. Marty reported that Bekky Robins had offered to fill the position of secretary and noted that this was included on the ballot that each member of the Parish Council received. After the votes were calculated, Terry Jennings reported that everyone was elected for another term and that Bekky would serve as Secretary for the Parish Council next year.
Review of Past Year and Discussion of New Initiatives for the Coming Year (Parish Council Officers)
Preliminary discussions were held about possibly hosting a Tolerance Sunday in the fall. Various topics were suggested including inter-faith tolerance, tolerance for illegal immigrants, racial tolerance, etc. Though no consensus was reached regarding the topic or format, the Parish Council agreed to establish a sub-committee which would bring to the Parish Council a proposal for initiating a Tolerance Sunday next fall. Marty Milisits, Roz Penapento and David Wengrod volunteered to serve on the sub-committee.
Among the past year’s achievements, Parish Council members noted the following achievements: The Feast of St. Stephen, the Environmental School Project, and the Open Forum.
Environmental Forum (Paul Robbins)
Paul reported that the committee had set a date for an Environmental Forum. The Forum will take place on September 20. Detailed plans would be presented to the Parish Council at its next meeting on September 10.
Report by Fr. Angelo
Fr. Angelo noted Fr. Denes had completed his tenure at St. Stephen’s and would be returning to Hungary in August. Fr. Angelo expressed his gratitude to Fr. Denes for his dedication and hard work, especially among young Hungarian immigrants. The Parish Council joined with Fr. Angelo in thanking Dr. Denes for his service to the parish and in wishing him all the best. Fr. Denes said he was looking forward to returning to Budapest and taking up a position as Chaplin at a Primary and Secondary School. Fr. Angelo reported that a new priest would be arriving from Hungary before Dr. Denes left.
Plans for St. Stephen of Hungary’s Feast Day (August 17) were progressing. This year, the mass would be bi-lingual in Hungarian and English. The Parish would, again, offer coffee in the courtyard for the entire neighborhood, have an outside evening event, and would encourage all Parishioners to attend the luncheon.
With the business of the Parish Council completed, Marty thanked the members of the Parish Council for their service during the past year, wished everyone a great summer and reminded them that the next Parish Council meeting will be on September 10.
If you have any issues or proposals that you would like to submit to the Parish Council, please leave a message for Marty Milisits, the chairman, at the rectory.
